Resident-led nonprofit brings community, private philanthropy and the City together to turn local priorities into meaningful projects across Manhattan Beach

What if loving where you live could become a tangible investment in the community around you?

That idea is at the heart of LoveMB Foundation, a nonprofit organization created by Manhattan Beach residents to help bring community priorities to life. On September 17, LoveMB celebrated its partnership with the City of Manhattan Beach at a community kickoff event, bringing together local leaders, residents and supporters around a shared vision for the future of the city.

LoveMB provides a simple way for residents, businesses and organizations to help support projects and programs that enhance life in Manhattan Beach. Working in collaboration with the City, the Foundation helps identify opportunities where private philanthropy can complement public resources and move meaningful community projects forward.

Those opportunities can span Manhattan Beach—from parks, recreation and public spaces to public safety, arts, community wellness and other programs and facilities that benefit residents.

“LoveMB is a great example of our community coming together to make Manhattan Beach even better. We’re excited to build on that spirit through this partnership,” said Manhattan Beach Mayor Joe Franklin.

The Foundation was created in 2024, and the Manhattan Beach City Council formally approved a Memorandum of Understanding with LoveMB in May 2025, establishing a framework for the City and Foundation to identify, evaluate and fundraise for projects that enhance quality of life throughout Manhattan Beach.

At its core, LoveMB is about community participation—giving residents an avenue to help shape and support the future of the city they call home.

“As a partner organization to our City, we also want to serve as the voice and vehicle for residents and their interests,” said Karen Komatinsky, Chairperson of the LoveMB Foundation Board of Directors. “Our goals are intentional and meaningful, creating opportunities for residents to give back. We are thrilled by the early excitement we are seeing and look forward to sharing more news about our developing list of projects.”

The independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit is governed by a volunteer board of Manhattan Beach residents and provides a centralized, tax-deductible way for individuals and organizations to support projects that matter to them. Rather than requiring a separate fundraising organization to be created for each community initiative, LoveMB can serve as the philanthropic vehicle connecting ideas, donors and opportunities for impact.

The Foundation’s vision extends beyond fundraising. LoveMB seeks to listen to residents, build partnerships and help accelerate projects that strengthen connections between neighbors and enhance the places and experiences that make Manhattan Beach home.

The September 17 kickoff marked an important next chapter: inviting the broader community into that process.

Residents are encouraged not only to support LoveMB financially, but also to get involved by sharing ideas for projects and programs they believe could make a difference.

Because ultimately, LoveMB is built around a simple idea: Love where you live—and help make it even better.
