The Joslyn Center Garden, located behind the Joslyn Center, was created in 2013 by Nick Strizzi as his Eagle Scout project. Three years ago, Manhattan Beach resident and avid gardener Catherine Nall began volunteering to maintain the garden. As the garden needs grew, she enlisted the help of her friends and fellow gardeners, Cynthia and Geof Strand.
Cynthia and Geof enjoy working together outdoors, where they experiment with a variety of plants and take pride in maintaining their garden year-round. Together with Catherine, they thoughtfully tend to the Garden by enriching the soil, managing pests, fertilizing, and introducing new plants.
Recognizing the need for additional amenities and limited City funding, Cynthia and Geof donated a picnic table and umbrella to enhance the garden as a welcoming space for the community.
In partnership with the LoveMB Foundation (LMB), Cyndi and Geof donated the funds for the purchase of additional bench seating to replace weathered and rusted furniture. LoveMB ordered the new benches and coordinated installation with the City Public Works Department.
Thank you, Cyndi and Geof!! The MB community is so grateful to you both for your generosity and continued commitment to keeping the garden a welcoming space for all.
